5 tips for child safety

Children are the future, and we should take care of them.  Here are some safety tips for children.

  1. Have a First Aid Kit Handy

An emergency situation can happen at any time, and it is best to be prepared.  You should keep your first aid kits somewhere easily accessible in your home and on your vehicle.  Older children should also know where the first aid kits are and how to use them.

  1. Pool Safety

In the summer months, a refreshing dip in the backyard pool is how many of us like to unwind.  However, pools are dangerous for young children and it’s important to have some precautions in place, such as a net over the pool when it is not in use.

  1. Stay Hydrated

On warm days it is quite easy to become dehydrated, and even more so for children.  Children have a larger proportion of their skin available to lose sweat and be exposed to heat.  Children are also not as aware of their thirst throughout the day and may need a little prompting.  Signs of someone becoming dehydrated include headache, poor concentration, cracked lips, lacking energy, dark urine, constipation and thirst.

  1. Electricity Safety

As adults we known that electrical devices and electricity are not toys, but children do not have that same awareness.  Power points, cables and electrical devices might seem intriguing to your children, so it’s vital to do a thorough safety check of your homes when there is a little one. Things to look out for include exposed power points, unlocked power boxes and exposed power chords.
